This is a regretted parting for us...
The Lhasa Apso is a strong, sturdy little dog from Tibet...
Tibet was never part of China. It was invaded by the Chinese in
1959 and due to the pacific country that was Tibet was, they had
no means of warding the Chinese off.
When the Tibetans fled Tibet during the Chinese occupation of
1959 they took only what they could carry and their dogs that
they loved dearly. These brave little dogs trudged over mountains
so high they are called "the roof of the world", running
by night and hiding by day with their owners.
Don't be fooled by the beautiful flowing coat! They are
a highly intelligent, loyal guard dog and often called "a
big dog in a small form" and yet gentle, fun loving and sweet
natured.
Training your Lhasa
and treating it with the RESPECT that you would grant any dog
is of paramount importance - treat them as a 'real dog', because
that is what they are. Any cross or 'mix' of a Lhasa Apso will
not retain the same health as a purebred as a Lhasa Apso has a
very large lung capacity which was required for the altitudes
of Tibet.
Breeding and the study of the old lines of Lhasa Apsos is my interest.
I breed Lhasa Apso of the 'old style' to preserve the original
Lhasa Apso. Lhasa was the capitol of Tibet and "apso"
means 'bearded one', so when asked what their dogs were, the Tibetans
replied "Lhasa Apso" - "bearded one from Lhasa"!
It is not correct to say that a dog "must be shown to equate
its value" - if this were true, then we would never have
the Lhasa Apso in the western world as the Tibetans certainly
did not show their dogs! Although I do not personally show
my dogs, they are in the show ring with other people and all our
dogs fit the Australian Standard of 10" for a male and female
slightly smaller. Showing dogs is a hobby or a sport, breeding
is not, it is a dedicated study and takes a huge amount of effort
and care for both mother and pups. Lhasa Apsos are "people
dogs" and should not be kenneled or left out in a backyard
- they must be part of the family.
Lhasa Apsos are highly intelligent, train easily and are eager
to please - they are soft-hearted, warm, loving, cuddly, loyal
and so much more! Our Lhasas Apsos are loved
and fun members of our life who spend their life inside with us
or romping and playing in the garden. Puppies are always
born and reared inside our home to ensure healthy, loved, happy,
socialised puppies and a well-cared for mother.
Meet some of my Lhasa Apsos in their "homely" and fun
aspects! There are many beautiful websites with Lhasa
Apsos in their flowing glorious coat, but since many owners do
not keep their dogs in long coat, I would like to introduce you
to the clipped, fun loving, Lhasa Apsos as well. However,
all our dogs have excellent, easy to care for coats as it is vital
to the happiness of both owner and dog.
Our puppies go to the best homes all over
Australia and the world.
Due to a pysical disability, I
cannot show my dogs. Anyone who uses this information
against me, be it verbal or in writing must answer accordingly
under the Disability Discrimination Act.
This website is about
loving and caring well for your Lhasa Apsos.
